“When I was ten years of age, my dad lost his business and left a massive void in our life. With no educational degrees to tag along, he was left in darkness with no job and no business. Our family was struggling, to manage two teen-age kids with little bit of money my dad had saved up. For the next few years we lived in grief and resentment of my dad’s business losses, for how things could have been if my dad hadn't taken those choices. We lived in the resentment of a past failure, where fear drove our emotions and the emotions drove us. However, my dad choose not to give up, but to raise himself from the ashes and kept trying. He had many failures and success over that period, but never back down.
Years passed by, I had completed my college degree and had a software job with a decent salary. Having money needed to spend for my needs and more money offered for my time, I found myself convinced by my ego and laziness, that I have "achieved" something and stopped learning. Slowly life got progressively busy, had a high paying job, but very little time to enjoy my life or spend some quality time with my family. After few years, I found myself in a situation where money was more valuable than time and where time was consumed by fear and greed. Life was just a busy rat race, where money was my master and had no control to make decisions for myself. A victim of false success, where my ego was pushing me through the fear of losing out in the game; until I truly understood the meaning of "Time is money".
It took me several years and some incredible mentors including my dad, to realize myself being a victim in that rat race. Meanwhile, my dad was still making deals in our community, including building houses, roads, farms and small family communities. Even-though he made very little money of each deal, he earned a greater amount of trust and credibility among the community. He knew the market though experience, and made deals happen around him to become a recognized voice in our community. A true veteran who served his community, with passion and purpose.
At the age of 30 I started to turn my life around all because my dad and other mentors who stepped in to provide me with direction and purpose. I am so thankful to these men who took time with me and have used mentors to continue my growth and development. Today, it’s my turn to provide the same knowledge and perspective to the people in need, to build a life with purpose, balance and freedom”.
Nobody teaches our kids about money, how to work, how to earn and have a voice in the world. Most kids today live in the fear of losing, in turn gaining no real life skills and knowledge to build their dreams. The lack of right guidance makes them go down the wrong path, become gang members, march for money and loot. And how big is the problem? This is not just an inner city issue but a nationwide problem. Kids without proper guidance are more likely to be poor, involved in drugs and alcohol abuse, drop out of school and suffer from mental and emotional problems.
The right mentor can provide clarity and change the mindset of a trouble maker to a successful person who can also become a beacon of light to others. The person who will have real life skills, knowledge and more opportunities. I want to help young minds who need mentoring, direction and guidance. Provide them with knowledge and courage to face the world; and build their creative ideas and dreams into reality.
Today, I am delivering on that promise with Davy Foundation. If you know someone that needs mentoring please let us know. If you know a group with a similar mission please reach out to us as we want to collaborate with other groups to provide energy and resources to kids in need.
